Connecting the clamp

Just had my Current Cost device delivered to me here in Germany by friends. Becasue of the way they do things here, I cannot get at the cable between the meter and the fuse box as requested by the instruction book. Does anybody know if the clamp can be placed elsewhere? The supply comes in over the roof and I can get at it there i.e. before the meter. Would that be a problem? Do you find this valuable?

The clamp has to go around the live wire only. The cable from the utility may also include the neutral in which case I wouldn't count on the data you get out. You might be able to get at the live wire feed as it enters the fusebox ? Do you find this valuable?
